PRESERVE

Scottsdale Mayor’s plan to possibly put Salt River horses in the preserve draws ire of some

Others say the idea is worth further investigation

Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky’s plan to possibly introduce up to 60 of the famous Salt River horses to 600 acres the McDowell Sonoran Preserve has been making headlines lately but some local experts say it’s a bad idea.

The Arizona Department of Agriculture’s herd management plan calls for thinning the heard of approximately 280 horses in the Tonto National Forest down to about 100, which begs the question of what happens to the other 180 horses?

Borowsky put out a written statement July 29 saying she is considering taking some of them.
