For the first time in more than a decade, the walls of the large, tucked away mayor’s office at Scottsdale City Hall are mostly bare as they await their new occupant.
One week out from his final day as mayor, only three large frames clung to the walls of what was W.J. “Jim” Lane’s office for 12 years. The desk was wiped clean with only some tech equipment pushed to one side, and a stack of papers, frames and knickknacks sat piled on the floor waiting to be taken elsewhere.
Up the stairs, and down the catwalk to the far left of City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd., the mayor’s office is tucked in the back corner of the building. While the City Hall Kiva is brightly lit, with many skylights, the mayor’s office is dark, serious. The room only has one small, square window — not much like a modern office built today.
