Scottsdale mayor, council remove Smith from city Planning Commission

Officials cite too many conflicts of interest to fulfill duty

The Scottsdale City Council majority voted to kick Planning Commissioner Prescott Smith off the volunteer board, citing the amount of times he has recused himself in public meetings because of a conflict of interest.

During a March 16 meeting, the City Council voted 4-3 to remove Mr. Smith from the Planning Commission, a seven-member advisory board that makes recommendations to council on development projects seeking approval, among other things.

Mayor David Ortega, Vice Mayor Betty Janik and council members Kathy Littlefield and Tom Durham voted in favor of removing the commissioner.
