Scottsdale golf occupancy down this year but still strong

Industry working to retain new golfers since COVID peak demand

Golf courses are overseeding as the season kicks off in Scottsdale, a city with world-renowned golf and one of the most popular travel destinations in the country.

Overseeding and weather are two possible reasons why golf course occupancy was down year-over-year in September and year to date. Occupancy also hit an all-time high in 2021 during COVID. 

Overseeding typically starts in September and runs through the middle of October. It’s the planting of grass seed directly into existing turf to fill in bare spots, improve grass varieties and enhance color.
