A hiker died and five others were rescued Monday afternoon on a Spur Cross trail, Scottsdale fire officials said.
The hiker who died was in his 20’s, and all of those rescued suffered from “heat emergencies,” firefighters said.
The hikers had run out of water and became lost on the trails, according to authorities.
They all were rescued using a helicopter from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical and the Phoenix Fire Department also responded to the rescue effort at approximately 1:30 p.m. in Cave Creek.
The Scottsdale Fire Department warned again: “It is important to plan your hike, hike the plan, bring plenty of water and know how to identify heat exhaustion.”
