Scottsdale educators study ‘Closing the COVID Learning Gap’

Scottsdale Unified School District administrators  look to address what they believe is a learning gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic’s disruption of schools, which interrupted education in more ways than one, with some students struggling in achievements and academics.

From closing campuses to limiting normal activities, the pandemic has left a void in academic skills for students officials are calling the “COVID learning gap.”

SUSD is not alone in disruptions resulting from the global pandemic as 55 million students in the U.S. lost instructional days and in-person learning, and high school student failure rates are increasing by two to three times the typical rate, according to information  presented at the Feb. 2, SUSD Governing Board meeting.
