Scottsdale council turns attention to littered Old Town alleyways

Whitehead: 'As far as what our alleys will look like, it’s hard to make them look worse'

Add cleaning up alleys to the list of projects Scottsdale is undergoing to put on a shiny facade for the world to see during the upcoming 2023 Super Bowl.

On Sept. 20, Scottsdale City Council briefly discussed a request from council member Betty Janik to begin two new campaigns. The first is to encourage downtown Scottsdale business and property owners to recycle by making it easier to do so. The second is to “refresh” the alleyways prior to the Super Bowl.

While the Super Bowl game will be held in Glendale, city officials expect much of the fanfare to be held in Scottsdale. Over the past year, the city has invested in several projects that would beautify or update areas, including re-doing sidewalks in Old Town Scottsdale to be ADA-compliant and completely redeveloping the Civic Center area around City Hall.
