Scottsdale collecting Prop 490 money despite legal challenge

For the past two and a half months, the City of Scottsdale has collected ballot Proposition 490 money to pay for maintenance, personnel and capital improvements at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, the city’s 44 parks and WestWorld, though that process is currently being questioned in court and has received no ruling.

The proposition was passed in November by 58% of the votes cast. It created a new 0.15% sales tax, which is expected to raise $1.2 billion over its 30-year life span. It replaced a 0.2 % sales tax that expired on the last day of June.

The city began collecting money on the tax at the start of the new fiscal year, which began July 1.
