The Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable will host Roseann Bacha-Garza, who will give a speech entitled “The Civil War on the Rio Grande” March 17.
An associate professor of anthropology and public heritage at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Bacha-Garza will highlight the region’s significance during the Civil War, including its role in the Confederate cotton trade and the social histories of its inhabitants, according to a press release.
The development of the Rio Grande Valley Civil War Trail project will be discussed and its importance in relation to the Texas borderlands and U.S. Civil War history.
