Scottsdale City Council opposes legislative zoning bill

The Scottsdale City Council is unanimously calling on Gov. Katie Hobbs to veto a bill that limits cities’ planning and zoning powers.

House Bill 2570 would eliminate minimum lot sizes and setback requirements as well as stop cities from setting minimum sizes for homes for cities with populations greater than 50,000. It also blocks those cities from mandating aesthetic qualities and eliminates homeowners associations.

The bill is designed to ease local restrictions to home building, which legislators say are limiting the number of new homes being built and keeping the price of homes out of reach of many would be homeowners.
