Scottsdale City Council denies Swag’s restaurant a third floor

The site will still likely hold a restaurant

The controversial Swags fine dining restaurant earmarked for Old Town’s entertainment district will not have a third floor.

The Scottsdale City Council voted 4-3 during its Jan. 9 meeting to allow the third floor. However, because of a legal protest filed by a group of neighboring businesses lead by developer Shawn Yari, the council needed to pass the zoning request to allow the third floor by a 5-2 vote.

Developer Aaron Wagner, who is building the restaurant did not respond to a request for comment; however, he did tell the Daily Independent during an interview on Jan. 2 that he needed the third floor to make a fine dining concept financially feasible. If he did not get the third floor, he would still build a restaurant on the site but it will not be the fine dining experience, he said.
