Scottsdale City Council approves paid parental leave for city employees

Council members: move is needed to stay competitive with other cities

Scottsdale City employees will now get paid time off for their journey into parenthood.

In unanimously approving its consent agenda Oct. 24, the city council gave city employees up to four weeks of paid leave time for the birth, adoption or placement of a child into a foster home.

In order to be eligible, employees must be eligible for the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Paid parental leave will run concurrent wit FMLA and will provide 100% of an employee’s base salary.
