Scottsdale councilwoman’s taxpayer-funded trip to Taiwan under scrutiny

A group of elected Valley officials will soon take a trip to Taiwan on an economic development mission paid for with taxpayer funds to try and woo semiconductor companies to their communities.

But the inclusion of one Scottsdale councilwoman has raised some eyebrows.

There are more than 100 delegates from around Arizona taking the trip organized by the Arizona Commerce Authority to the Semicon Taiwan exhibition, from Aug. 31 through Sept. 4, including the likes of Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky, Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman, Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke, Buckeye Mayor Erik Orsborn and Pima County Vice Chairman Dr. Matt Heinz as well as municipal staff members and private corporation representatives.
