We tragically lost Scott Harkness (59) on February 6th, 2022. Scott was born in September of 1962 to Betsy and Richard Harkness (both deceased) in Sacramento, California. Scott, learning disabled since birth, was a kind, happy soul who lived life with a smile. Scott spent most of his life in California. Family moves took him from Sacramento to Novato in his early childhood years, then to Kings Beach (Lake Tahoe) and Moraga for his late childhood/teenage years. After finishing High School Scott moved to Rohnert Park where he lived in group homes and learned the skills needed to be independent. Scott strove to be independent. In the late 1990’s his hard work paid off and, with Section 8 Housing assistance, was able to move into an apartment of his own…..Independence!!....a big accomplishment. Scott moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2005 after the passing of his Mom to be closer to his Brother. Scott was a very good athlete and participated in Special Olympics most of his life. His Special Olympic sports included Track and Field, Softball, Basketball and Golf. He had success in all. Later he helped coach his Scottsdale Bobcats Special Olympics team. Scott loved people. He had many friends and could often be found on Saturday nights at his favorite sports bar near his apartment telling jokes and laughing with his friends. He could also be found at Club SAR, the City of Scottsdale gym near where he lived, where he volunteered and brightened everyone’s day with his infectious smile and happy attitude. Scott was loved. He will be sorely missed in his community. He is survived by his Brother. Donations are being collected in Scotty’s name for the Scottsdale Bobcats Special Olympics team. Please donate what you can so Scott’s legacy in the Special Olympics and community can continue.
