PHOENIX — Yes, Republican gubernatorial hopeful David Schweikert has less than $89,000 in the bank with just two months to go until early voting starts, according to new campaign finance reports.
But his campaign manager said that was always the intent. Chris Baker said Schweikert, having gotten in the race after other contenders — and not very well known outside his own congressional district — has to spend money as fast as it comes in.
And, no, said Baker, Schweikert’s not getting out of the GOP gubernatorial primary race against fellow Congressman Andy Biggs, who is sitting on more than $1.1 million. On top of that, Biggs has the benefit of more than $483,000 in outside spending on his behalf, including almost $460,000 by Turning Point.
