School district scraps finance oversight committee on spending $6.76M

Volunteers are no longer needed from the community and school employees to determine how to spend more than $6.7 million on capital projects at Apache Junction Unified School District. The district has scrapped plans for the committee.

The district governing board approved the formation of an Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief/School Facilities Funds Oversight Committee with applications to be posted at ajusd.org on March 3 and names chosen and posted by April 9. That never happened.

“At this time, the governing board has decided to not have the oversight committee,” Heather Wallace, the district’s executive director of educational services, said in an emailed response to questions.
