Scams proliferate with COVID-19

Residents urged to be cautious

As Sun Cities residents enter a new year with COVID-19 still hanging over their heads, there is more to be concerned about than health issues.

Residents continue to be targeted by scams aiming to deplete their bank accounts. These efforts continue to multiply and evolve. Law enforcement officials encourage residents to be skeptical of unsolicited phone calls, texts or emails and to take precautions to protect themselves.

Sun City resident Sharon Major said she and several friends were targeted by emails designed to get the recipient to purchase e-gift cards for the sender. Ms. Major said the emails are sent under the name of someone she and her friends knew.
