OPINION — As Trump continues to pursue an increasingly unpopular ICE immigration sweep, where people are being detained without due process based on skin color or language and where large private prisons are being built in Arizona to warehouse immigrants, John Kavanagh (R-Fountain Hills) has sponsored a new bill SB 1635.
SB 1635 proposes to make it a criminal offense to alert your neighbors or blow a whistle to alert of ICE activity. This would include any of your private conversations in person or by phone or text or posting on social media that warns of any neighborhood ICE activity.
Any imparting of ICE activity to your neighbor would be a criminal offense punishable by jail. Most assuredly, those El Salvador-style prison warehouses being proposed in Arizona would soon reach capacity as citizens are criminally prosecuted for helping their neighbors be treated in a just and civil manner pursuant to the Constitution and due process laws of our great country.
