Kevin Sartor began thinking it was really possible he was going to be elected the next mayor of Surprise early on primary day.
Armed with a small group of teen helpers, Sartor arrived to Surprise City Hall before the polls opened at 6 a.m. July 30 to set up a booth of election materials to sway last-minute voters. But it didn’t take long in the hot Arizona sun for the one-time Surprise Planning and Zoning Commissioner to begin noticing a trend.
“I was getting a lot of good feedback from people walking in,” Sartor said. “A lot of people were saying, ‘We got you.’”
