SAR chapter continues to grow

The Saguaro Chapter of the Arizona Society of the Sons of the American Revolution continues to grow with the addition of five members of the Jerry Cole family.

The Coles are descended from Patriot Captain Matthew Cole who served in the American Revolution in the Connecticut Militia.

The Cole Family members were inducted into the SAR Nov. 25 during the Saguaro Chapter meeting. They included Jerry Cole, Sun City, and his son, Rick Cole, Parelta, New Mexico. The other members who also became members but were not present were Allan Cole, Oxford, Michigan, son of Jerry; Chris Cole, Oxford, Michigan, son of Allan Cole; and Jonathan Cole, Peralta, New Mexico, son of Rick Cole. They represent the fifth and sixth generations of Cole descendants from Patriot Captain Matthew Cole.The speaker for the Nov. 25 Saguaro Chapter meeting was Sun City winter resident Jim Bish who spoke about the role of Virginians in the period leading up to the Revolutionary War. He published numerous articles on local history and genealogy and he currently serves Prince William County, Virginia as a member of the Historical Commission.

Mr. Bish is a member of the William Grayson Chapter of the SAR in Virginia and has 15 ancestors who served in the American Revolution. While in Arizona in the winter he also volunteers his time to videotape and interview veterans about their wartime experiences for theNtional Museum of the Marine Corps and the Americans in Wartime Museum located in Virginia.

The Saguaro Chapter’s December meeting will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Golden Corral, 17674 N. Litchfi eld Road, Surprise.

The Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the War for Independence. Those who have an ancestor who supported the cause of American independence during the years 1774– 1783 are invited to join the SAR. The SaguaroChapter is an active group serving all West Valley cities and communities. The Saguaro Chapter meets for breakfast at the Golden Corral on the fourth Saturday of each month from September through May.
