The Salvation Army is preparing to provide nearly 3,500 Thanksgiving meals to people in need on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27.

“We invite families, individuals, and people of all ages to join us for a hot, nourishing meal and fellowship,” said Major Charles Fowler, Commander of The Salvation Army Southwest Division, in a release.

The Thanksgiving event will be in its traditional location in the South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center, located on the southeast corner of 3rd Street and Washington Street, where 1,200 meals are expected to be served.

The Salvation Army will also deliver 2,200 meals to homebound neighbors.

The Convention Center doors open to the public at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. As they enter, guests will be offered free haircuts, hygiene kits and pet supplies (while supplies last), live music, resources from community partners, and emotional and spiritual support.

Guests can watch the parade and football game on a big screen, and there will be an outdoor seating area for guests with pets.

Meal service will begin at 10 a.m. and be served while food lasts or until 1 p.m., when the doors to the Convention Center will close.

Guests needing transportation can call 211 for a ride. Valley Metro is also running on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day.

For those unable to make it to the Convention Center for dinner, select Salvation Army units across the Valley will also be serving Thanksgiving meals in their communities. Contact your local Salvation Army to learn more.
