Safeway to anchor Sterling Grove Shopping Center in Surprise

Retail center to open in early 2023

Plans for the new Sterling Grove Shopping Center include a Safeway supermarket as an anchor to the development.

Common Bond Development Group on Thursday announced the shopping center will open in early 2023 at the northwest corner of Peoria Avenue and Cotton Lane.

The Safeway-anchored center will include 20,000 square feet of retail space, plus five standalone pads, when completed.

It will be just south of Sterling Grove, the 780-acre master planned private golf community by Toll Brothers.

“Surprise has grown nearly 300% over the past decade plus, including an influx of young families and working professionals seeking new shopping, dining and entertainment options,” said Common Bond principal Brian Frakes in a news release. “We’ve been looking for just the right location for years now, and jumped at the opportunity to secure this expansive former farm property right off the 303 freeway and on the border of Surprise and Glendale.”

Frakes said the shopping center was designed to blend into the neighborhood.

Construction has commenced with a targeted completion date of early 2023.
