The Dysart Unified School District has always focused on school safety and has increased the focus over the past several years.
Currently, Dysart Schools has eight school resource officers, with one at each high school and middle school. However, with a school safety grant, that number will increase to 13. This allows district officials to add some to several elementary schools in 2023-24.
The district already has in place strong partnerships with local law enforcement and first responders, including SROs. Threat assessment teams are on each campus to investigate potential threats to individuals or the campus, including reporting to law enforcement as needed, according to Renee Ryon, Dysart Schools director of communications.
