Safety concerns rise over street signs

MCDOT handles replacement schedule

Maricopa County Department of Transportation is working on street signs in Sun City West.

Street signs throughout the community can pose a safety threat. According to Erika Flores, MCDOT spokeswoman, 300 street signs are scheduled to be replaced in Sun City West. This number does not include any signs damaged because of storms, car accidents, graffiti or were stolen.

The signs are to be replaced because the Arizona sun. Flores said the sun shines on the signs every day, which diminishes the ability to reflect the light back to the source.
