Safer summers: Cities, nonprofits, police work to engage, protect teens during break

Keeping kids out of and away from trouble during the summer has long challenged parents, but this year there’s an added urgency to that quest.

This is the first summer break since the October murder of 16-year-old Preston Lord in Queen Creek, as well as the law enforcement crackdown on the “Gilbert Goons” who are accused of assaulting, beating and robbing several teens throughout the southeast Valley.
