SAC maps out work to completion in Sun City

Focusing on Mountain View

The Recreation Centers of Sun City Strategic Alternatives Committee laid out its plan for work in the coming months.

The committee is tasked with researching alternatives for the Mountain View Center, 9749 N. 107th Ave., rebuild project. It is expected to make its report and recommendations to the RCSC board in September. The board will then consider the suggestions and vote on a final plan. The Mountain View rebuild project, which had reached the detailed design stage, was suspended earlier this year pending the finding from SAC.

A meeting agenda for the entire committee time span was introduced and discussed. The months ahead are divided into six phases with a different agenda each week, according to John Fast, committee co-chair.

Phase one, the organization of the panel, is concluded. Phase two will be for data analysis and will run to Friday, June 9.

In the third phase, to be conducted Friday, June 16-Aug. 25, the committee will explore alternatives and develop its recommendations. The intent is to develop three or four strawman proposals to kick the process off and then open the discussion to include member ideas, according to Karen McAdam, committee co-chair.

The report to the board will be drafted in phase four from Friday, Sept. 1 to Friday, Sept. 29. Primary recommendations and alternatives to consider will be presented and should include member usage, cost and space constraints, according to Jeff Darbutt, committee co-chair.

Phase five will be the member comment period and will be in October and November. Phase six will be the board vote, which is expected in November or December.

During the May 5 meeting, the committee discussed parallel work streams, the Preservation Improvement Fund budget and the Mountain View project option 2. The group also discussed why a SAC approach is better for planning large projects.

Information from the May 12 meeting was not available at press time.

The number of allowed occupants per meeting was increased from 24 to 55 with an overflow area in the next room. SAC is open to all RCSC members.
