SUN CITY WEST - Ruth M. (Robinson) Mattison died Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at her home at Chaparral Winds Assisted Living, Surprise, following a long and happy life. Ruth was born on Nov. 1, 1924, the first child of Albert K. Robinson, Sr. and Kilda L. Parmenter Robinson. She received her early education in Old Cobblestone School, and was a graduate of North Bennington High School and Carleton State College in Vermont. She married Douglas L. Mattison on June 14, 1946. They enjoyed 57 happy years together. Ruth was an extraordinary, dedicated and gifted teacher who started teaching at the age of 18. She taught at North Bennington Elementary School for many years. She served on the Vermont Education Board and was President of the Bennington Southwest Teacher's Association for two terms. She was a charter member and past president of Eta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma. At the time of her death she was a member of Alpha Xi Chapter in Arizona. While teaching, Ruth also served as a Girl Scout leader for ten years and was director of Bennington Girl Scout Camp for two years. She was Past Worthy Matron of Tucker Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and later a lifetime member of Red Mountain Chapter in Arlington, Vt. Ruth and her husband were members of Mt Anthony Country Club and also Lake Morey Country Club. Ruth was an excellent golfer and won several club and State championships.They raised and showed their St. Bernard, and later bred miniature Apricot Poodles. Both Ruth and Doug also enjoyed swimming, bowling, tennis, snowmobiling, skiing, bridge, bird watching and travelling. They moved to Sun City West in 1987 and joined Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in 1989. Ruth was active in the UMC Women's Association and served on various church committees and was leader of Martha Circle for five years. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Doug; a brother, Albert K. Robinson; his wife, Lillian; and her sister-in-law, Louise (Richard) Robinson. She is survived by one brother, Richard Robinson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends. Her memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Shepherd of the Hills UMC, Sun City West. Her ashes will be spread in the Biblical Garden.
