Ruth Ellen Engelman

SUN CITY - Ruth Ellen Engelman passed away at her home on Feb. 11, 2017.Ruth is predeceased by her mother, Rosina Hitch; and her father, Benjamin Norreen. She was an only child.Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert. They were married in St. Joseph, Mich., in 1955.Ruth is lovingly remembered by her son, Brett, of Phoenix; her son, Mark and his wife, Lisa, of Glendale; and her grandsons, Carter and Trent, of Glendale.Ruth was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Sept. 25, 1935. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1952 and attended Albion College in 1953 to 1954. Throughout her life, Ruth was a homemaker and tireless volunteer.Ruth was a community organizer and a devoted volunteer at United Church of Sun City. She chaired several church groups over the years and was involved in decorating, organizing activities and events, handling publicity, and volunteering her time wherever and whenever a need arose. Ruth was the chairman of her local Block Watch for many years as well. Ruth's main love, other than her family, was decorating, which she taught for several years at the local community center. Ruth loved to bring people together and would often throw luncheons or dinner parties for her friends and neighbors. She also loved to play bridge and was a Life Master in Duplicate.A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at United Church of Sun City, 11250 N 107th Ave, Sun City, AZ 85351, on Mar. 12, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Brady Able officiating.
