Capt. Russell E. BlalackRussell Edward Blalack was born Aug. 24, 1921 in Tipp City, Ohio, and died April 28, 2007 in Sun City West. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and entered service as a gunnery officer of the USS Snook. He completed flight school and eventually logged over 10,000 hours in jets, bombers, and reconnaissance and carrier aircraft. During the Korean War he served as a bomber pilot in the Naval Air Nuclear Deterrent squadron in North Africa. He obtained his master"s degree from Stanford University in 1953. An expert swordsman, he was inducted into the Naval Academy Hall of Fame for his two national championships in fencing. He moved to Sun City West in 1989. He married Sylvia (deceased), Eileen (deceased), Juell (deceased), and is survived by his first wife and the mother of his children, Joan. Other survivors include his children, Russell Jr., Kristin, Robert and Peg; brother, David; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
