On June 1, five residents from multi-acre properties on the western end of Surprise spoke at a City Council meeting, asking the city for more enforcement of the illegal dumping in the neighborhood and less enforcement of city codes they believe are more suited to suburban developments.
A month and a half later, not much has changed, said Michael Kolb, who lives near 219th Avenue and Williams Road.
This area north of the Sun Valley Parkway has been in Surprise for more than 30 years. At least one popular dumping site was cleared, but such sites dot this expanse west of the Northwest Regional Landfill.
