Ruben Castro has joined Abrazo Health as chief executive officer of Abrazo Scottsdale Campus and Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital.

Castro has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare including operations leadership, nursing and clinical information technology, according to a press release.

As CEO of the Scottsdale and Cave Creek hospitals, Castro is responsible for administration and strategy, quality management, patient satisfaction and building positive relationships with staff, physicians and community. Before joining Abrazo, he was chief operating officer at Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves as an LPN and medical laboratory technician, according to the release.

“The northeast Valley is full of opportunity and I’m really excited about joining Abrazo,” Castro said in the release. “I see many positives about our hospitals and the neighborhoods we serve. The Abrazo Scottsdale Campus continues to advance its surgical services including orthopedics, spine, bariatric and general surgery. Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital has been welcomed by the community since it opened two years ago.”

Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, 3929 E. Bell Road, is a 120-bed acute care hospital. In addition to its emergency and surgical offerings, the hospital recently opened a new cardiac catheterization lab.

Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital opened in July 2021, near the southwest corner of Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road at 5227 E. Carefree Highway. The neighborhood hospital offers a full 24-hour emergency department, inpatient care, procedure rooms, onsite ultrasound services, x-ray and CT scan services, laboratory, pharmacy and other services.
