Royse Contemporary will present Painting Versus Photography, a group exhibition examining artists working in painting, photography or both.
This group exhibition aims to compare, contrast and question the varying favoritisms of a particular art form, while appreciating the beauty and essence of these art forms, according to a press release.
Painting Versus Photography highlights the work of local artists James Angel, Cherie Buck-Hutchison, Charmagne Coe, Cam DeCaussin, Daniel Shepherd, Marilyn Szabo, Brian Klein, Nigel Clouse, Rafael Navarro and Johnny Kerr.
“I am delighted to bring these talented artists and their diverse work together and explore what draws people to certain artforms over another in what promises to be a provocative exhibition that offers something for everyone,” Curator/Owner Nicole Royse said in a prepared statement.
“‘The principles of true art is not to portray, but to evoke,’ said acclaimed novelist Jerzy Kosinski. This is something that is true and significant in any art form and is just one of the reasons art is so important to the fabric of our society.”
Painting Versus Photography will open to the public Thursday, Dec. 5 with a special artist reception, coinciding with the weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk from 6-10 p.m. The evening will feature an opportunity to meet the featured artists and curator, along with light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.
This year’s Scottsdazzle Gold Palette ArtWalk will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, featuring strolling carolers, live holiday musical performances, holiday shopping, and other spirited activities.
Royse Contemporary will host the closing reception from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28. Painting Versus Photography will be on display at Royse Contemporary from Dec. 5 through Jan. 4, 2020.
Royse Contemporary is in the Scottsdale Arts District in the Marshall Square complex at 7077 E. Main St. Royse Contemporary is open 9 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; 6-9 p.m. Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
