Room to roam: conservation group wants to keep the White Tanks wild

With the onslaught of development, ‘wildlife corridors’ must be preserved, group says

The White Tanks Conservancy is sounding the alarm: planned development is presenting an existential threat to one of the most biodiverse deserts on earth.

The White Tank Mountains, bordered by Buckeye and Surprise, are home to quintessential desert dwellers like the mule deer, desert tortoise, kit fox, bobcat, mountain lion and javelina — creatures that have all but disappeared from other central Arizona mountains surrounded by development.

While not totally untouched by human activity, White Tank Mountain Regional Park remains one of the best conserved natural spaces in the Valley.
