The Irish Cultural Center will host six performances of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” produced by Ronin Theatre Company, Dec. 14-18.
“We have reimagined the courtship between Petruchio and Katherina for 19th Century Ireland,” director and co-star Keath Hall, who has directed several plays including Ronin’s 2021 production of Shakespeare’s “Henry V,” shared in a news release.
The Irish Cultural Center is located at 1106 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.
First produced in 1594, “Shrew” was the original ‘battle of the sexes’ comedy that inspired several famous adaptations including the musical “Kiss Me, Kate” and films like “McLintock!” and “10 Things I Hate About You.”
Ronin’s cast features Hall (Petruchio), Breona Conrad (Katherina), Antoinette Martin-Hanson (Trania), Seth Scott (Hortensio), Skip Emerson (Baptista), Alex Kass (Lucentio), Ryan Jenkins (Bianca/haberdasher), Bill Griffith (Gremio), Damon Evans (Vicentio/Curtis), Katryce Bridges (Biondella/tailor), Suze St. John (Pendant, widow) and Ronin co-founder Cody Goulder (Grumio); Kate Weir is stage manager.
Tickets to “The Taming of the Shrew” are available at AZIrish.org/performances, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Irish Cultural and Learning Foundation.
