‘Romeo & Juliet’ opens Ballet Arizona season in Phoenix

Six performances at Symphony Hall launch company’s 40th anniversary season

Ballet Arizona will open its 40th anniversary season with “Romeo & Juliet” Oct. 22-25 at Symphony Hall in downtown Phoenix. The production, choreographed by former Artistic Director Ib Andersen, will be presented six times during the four-day run.

Based on William Shakespeare’s tragedy, the ballet follows Romeo and Juliet, members of the feuding Montague and Capulet families, whose relationship ends in tragedy. The production combines Andersen’s choreography with Sergei Prokofiev’s score.

The Phoenix Symphony will perform Prokofiev’s complete score live during the production. Former Ballet Arizona dancer Michal Wozniak also will return to the company for “Romeo & Juliet.” Wozniak joined Ballet Arizona in 2009 and performed in several productions before joining Phoenix Ballet as a principal dancer in 2012.
