Roman-inspired restaurant near the waterfront in Tempe

Pretty Decent Concepts, the hospitality group that created Wren & Wolf, Trophy Room, Carry On, and Filthy Animal, announces its next venture: Roman God of Fire, opening in early 2026 at Tempe's Hayden Ferry Lakeside.

Referred to as Roman for short, the restaurant aims for an atmosphere inspired by ancient architecture and dishes inspired by efforts from celebrity chef Scott Conant.

Conant, a James Beard Award winner and Food Network personality, brings his approach to Italian cuisine to the new venture. His vision comes to life alongside Pretty Decent Concepts’ Culinary Director Ivan Gonzalez, who expands the menus with dishes rooted in Roman Italian heritage. The culinary program is complemented by Pretty Decent Concepts’ cocktail team with an Italian-focused cocktail menu.

“Italian food has always been about soul, generosity, and connection,” said Conant. “I’m excited to collaborate with Pretty Decent Concepts in creating a space that captures that spirit while also offering something fresh and inspiring.”

The 8,000-square-foot restaurant will feature interiors by Peter Bowden of Petermax Design, whose portfolio includes Best Bar Design at North America’s 50 Best Bars for Carry On in downtown Phoenix.

“With Roman, we set out to create a cultural landmark, a place where every element from the food to the design to the energy of the room is orchestrated as one,” said Teddy Myers, founder of Pretty Decent Concepts.

Roman is slated to open in the first half of 2026. As of September 2025, Pretty Decent Concepts owns and operates seven restaurants and bars in Phoenix and Tempe. By second-quarter 2026, the group will expand to 12 unique concepts across the Phoenix metropolitan area.
