Robot serves residents in SCW

Grandview Terrace adds help

The newest employee in dining services is unlike any other in Sun City West.

The Sun Health Communities — including Grandview Terrace, 14515 W. Granite Valley Road; La Loma Village, 14154 S. Denny Blvd.; and The Colonnade, 19116 N. Colonnade Way — added service robots to the team earlier this year.

Grandview Terrace in Sun City West has residents excited during meal service and eager to watch “Rosie” at work. The robot functions as a high-tech food server and busser and provides an extra set of hands, or platforms in Rosie’s case, that is helpful to the human staff. Chuck Kerby, Grandview Terrace executive director, said the process to set up the robot included mapping the floor to tell the computer system inside Rosie where all the tables were on the floor, as well as the locations to stop at the back and front of the house. The residents came up with creative name suggestions before Rosie was decided upon.
