Robert J. Schmidt

Robert J. Schmidt, of Sun City, AZ, formerly of Hamilton Square, NJ, passed away January 21, 2019, at the age of 90. Born August 22, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA. Bob graduated from Falls Township High School in Fallsington, PA, and attended Penn State and Rider College.He married Jean Bertolet on July 7, 1951.Bob worked for the Star Porcelain Company in Trenton, NJ, and later for the United States Postal Service, from which he retired in 1992. He and Jean moved to Sun City upon his retirement.Bob was a member of American Lutheran Church in Sun City and a member of Fraternal-Gothic Lodge #270 F&AM in Hamilton Square and the Scottish Rite in Bordentown, NJ. Over the years, he taught Sunday School and was a 4-H Club leader. He loved trains and was an avid model railroader in both Hamilton and Sun City, and he enjoyed camping adventures with his family.Bob was a kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends, not least because of his gentle humor and his propensity for sneaking cookies. Predeceased by his parents, Robert J. and Anna Schmidt and his sister, Dorothy Claus.Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his sister, Joan Cliver (Oscar) of York, PA; his three daughters, Deborah Doolittle (Craig) of Hamilton Square, NJ, Donna Cruser (Charles) of Trenton, NJ, and Bonnie Dahline (David) of Corydon, IN; his four grandchildren: Abby Sander (Neil), Glenn Cruser (Katie), Eric Doolittle, and Leah Dahline; his three great-granddaughters, Madison Cruser and Claire and Anna Sander; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Memorial services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at American Lutheran Church located at 17200 W. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Lutheran Church.
