We are saddened to announce the passing of Robert Earl Gardom, born February 5th 1944 in Phoenix, AZ to Preston and Dorothy Gardom. Robert “Bob” passed away from cancer on December 2nd, 2023.
He is survived by his ex-wife; Elaine Gardom, two grown daughters from his first marriage with Sherry and were lucky to have had the best dad; Jacque and Bobbi, a respected son in law; Chad, two grandchildren that he spoiled rotten and were much loved; Ben and Kalie, a loving and supportive brother and sister; Ronald and Beverly and Felicia and many, many cherished friends from Springerville that he kept in touch with all these years.
Robert was a native of Arizona and spent his entire life and career in the State. He attended elementary and high school in Springerville/Eagar AZ, graduating from Round Valley High in 1962. He attended two years of college at NAU and Mesa Community College. He held various positions with the State Department from 1965 through 1974, The City of Tempe from 1974 through 2010 and as a volunteer with the Posse of Sun City West for another 11 years. After his final retirement in 2010 he went back as a consultant to help with the Light Rail Project for the City of Tempe. His other legacy projects were Kiwanis Park, Centerpoint on Mill and Arizona Mills.
He had a passion for travel and adventure, he enjoyed skiing and did some sky diving. He had a big group of friends in Sun City West where he enjoyed hosting parties, cooking and baking for all.
Robert contributed to many charities, if you would like to make a contribution in his name in lieu of flowers some of his favorites were The Special Olympics, Disabled American Veterans, St. Mary’s Food Bank and The Salvation Army.
He lived life busy, always doing something or engaged with people. His diagnosis was unexpected and he lived the last six weeks of his life like he lived, busy. It was very fast but we are grateful for this time we had to spend with him. He will be missed every day.
