Roadwork to widen 163rd Avenue in north Surprise begins

The Arizona Department of Transportation added a third westbound lane on Grand Avenue from Loop 303 to 163rd Avenue, connecting to a new right turn lane to northbound 163rd Avenue.

The city of Surprise has kicked off a roadway improvement project that will widen northbound 163rd Avenue from Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) to Pat Tillman Boulevard.
Drivers can expect to see construction work beginning this week.
This phase of the project will complete a second northbound lane from Grand Avenue to Pat Tillman Boulevard.
Currently, there are two northbound lanes that extend 300 feet from Grand Avenue before merging into one lane.
The ultimate project buildout will include three lanes on the same stretch of road.
