Roadwork in Peoria requires additional funds

A project to improve the sidewalks and streets within the Olive Park community, near Olive and 71st avenues, began several weeks ago but recently hit a roadblock of sorts.

Public Works Director Jay Davies said as the project began, workers discovered major issues with the subbase under the pavement, which required additional work and materials.

To fund the additional needs, Peoria City Council approved about $1.3 million March 21 for the total amount to Nesbitt Contracting to finish the job.
