Roadrunners, Tucson in the dark about plans to move team to Tempe

Minor league team could replace Coyotes at Mullett Arena

The Tucson Roadrunners and the city of Tucson have been left in the dark as former Arizona Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo publicly spoke about plans to relocate the minor league hockey team to Tempe, replacing the NHL team that is relocating to Utah.

“We’ve still have had no contact from them,” city of Tucson spokesperson Andy Squire said Friday afternoon after Meruelo publicly mentioned plans to move the team on Thursday and Friday.

City officials have not heard from the Coyotes ownership group, the NHL or the American Hockey League where the Roadrunners play, Squire said. The city is also in constant contact with the Roadrunners front office and Tucson’s Rio Nuevo downtown district, and Squire said they have not been contacted about relocation either.
