Steven Orona, 39, was sentenced in the shooting and death of Larry Milligan, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. A jury convicted Orona of first-degree murder and drive-by shooting.

Orona shot Milligan while both were driving along Seventh Avenue. Surveillance video showed Orona pulling along side Milligan’s car and firing a shot through the open window before speeding off. Milligan was shot in the head, according to an MCAO press release.

Orona’s sport-utility vehicle was found by Phoenix Police about a month later on a Buckeye property that belonged to the family of his girlfriend, Yessenia Garcia Rocha. The vehicle had painted rims investigators said were meant to alter the vehicle’s appearance, according to the release.

Rocha, who was in the passenger seat during the shooting, testified she and Orona had agreed to hide the SUV.

Rocha was previously sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to one misdemeanor charge of tampering with physical evidence, according to the release.
