Rita Ruhm Schoenfeld

SUN CITY WEST - Rita Ruhm Schoenfeld, of Sun City West, passed away April 23, 2011, from complications of a fall. She was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Bronx, N.Y., the eldest daughter of Sarah and Samuel Ruhm. She graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan in 1946, and in 1947 married Robert Schoenfeld, also from the Bronx. Eventually they moved to Flushing, N.Y., where after raising their two sons, she worked for 20 years as the school secretary at PS 71 in Ridgewood, N.Y. Rita and her husband were avid world travelers, making more than a dozen trips overseas. After retirement they moved to Sun City West in 1989, joining her sister Louise and brother-in-law Herbert Fine. Rita was an avid gardener, Mar Jongg player, excellent cook and entertainer, a Chinese cuisine enthusiast, music lover and skilled piano player. Rita had a kind and generous heart, always thinking of others and lending a hand. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert; sons, Samuel and William; grandsons, Noah and Gabriel; and sister, Louise and her family. Her kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
