Rickabaugh: Age overlay exceptions in Sun City are ‘no no’
My position on overlay is that no requests should even be considered (“Overlay decision in limbo,” Sun City Independent, Dec. 7, 2022).
When buying a house in an age restricted neighborhood everything is up front, you are told the rules and you should’ve read the rules. I abide by those rules. There are no reasons to change the age restriction rules. If you allow one variance it will never stop.
I moved here, paid $3,500 and I pay a yearly rec fee that’s close to $600, even though I don’t use the facilities. I accept that because I want to live where there are adults and no children. I raised my children and now I want to have the peace and quiet that I’ve earned. If people are having problems with elderly family members who are having problems, there are many solutions that don’t infringe on my chosen way of life.

In my opinion, any request to change the rules should never even be considered. If you change the rules for one person it opens up a floodgate that will turn our community into another Youngtown.
I urgently request that all requests be refused. To even consider any of them would be jeopardizing our way of life.
