Richard W. Holmes, 83 GOLD CANYON - Richard W. Holmes, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010. He was 83. He was born in Berkeley, Calif., January 14, 1927, and was the loving husband and best friend for 31 years of Juanita Holmes. Richard served as a lieutenant in the Korean War, where he was awarded the bronze star. He continued his military commitment with the California National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Captain. He retired from ConAgra Foods as a divisional Vice President in 1986. He and Juanita enjoyed spending their time between their homes in Gold Canyon and Show Low. Richard was preceded in death by daughter, Cynthia Holmes. He is survived by brother, Robert Holmes of Orinda, Calif.; children, Katherine Gromme, Stephen Holmes, Mark Holmes, Susanne Holmes, and Laurette Harris; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider donations to the American Cancer Society; or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 in his name.
