Rhoades: Sun City West recall proponents not delivering facts

This letter to the editor is in part a direct response to the letter in the Nov. 15 edition of the Independent by Dennis Horvath. Mr. Horvath stated that “the president of the board appointed a board member whose professional experience was in health care to chair the Budget and Finance Committee, passing over another board member who is a CPA.” This statement is false. The chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee is by design the governing board treasurer. The treasurer position is an elected position. The CPA did not run for any officer position. The election of board officers is done annually by all nine members of the board. The governing board meeting is open to the public and available on YouTube (see RCSCW Governing Board Regular Meeting April 20, 2023). The vote is by secret ballot; but the meeting is open. Please do your own homework rather than “assume” information presented by the recall committee is accurate and complete.

During the Nov. 16 governing board meeting, all nine members of the board unanimously approved that the investment strategy implemented by the Professional Investment Advisors is in compliance with our written investment strategy. View the YouTube video of the governing board meeting starting at 10:40 into the meeting to see this information. The entire presentation by the professional investment manager to the Budget and Finance committee on Nov. 7 is also available on YouTube.

One resident recently stated this recall effort is beginning to feel like the game whack-a-mole. When one statement by the recall committee is refuted (Example: not in compliance with our investment policy) another “fact” pops up (Example: the CPA on the governing board was passed over for chair of Budget and Finance Committee). This recall effort began in earnest last spring and started gathering signatures well over a moth ago. It is time for them to move forward or move on.
