Revenue down at R.H. Johnson Lanes

Program hit hard by pandemic

With revenue in decline as a result of COVID-19 issues, Recreation Centers of Sun City West officials are looking ahead to adapt to changing trends of entertainment.

The R.H. Johnson Lanes inside the Sports Pavilion, 19803 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd., experienced positive cash flow in league and open play bowling for the 2018-19 fiscal year. According to Recreation Center of Sun City West Sports Pavilion Manager Barry Hardesty, revenue was at $841,785 and increased by $54,000, which is up 6%.

“But then 2019-20 came and we were doing well until the virus hit us and we were closed for three months. And that put a dent in where we were going,” he explained. In 2019-20 league play, revenue was $379,186, which was down 13%. Open play revenue was at $136,492, which was down 25%. Total bowling was $561,398, which is down 17%. Total revenue was $710,678, which is a 10% decrease and games bowled was negative 14%.over the 2018-19 fiscal year.
