Following a late decision and little publicized communication about the change to push in-person, on-campus learning back a week for 2,724 Scottsdale middle schoolers, just six students showed up to closed campuses Monday morning, according to the district.
Although the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board decided after a detailed Thursday, Jan. 7, meeting to delay the originally scheduled Monday, Jan. 11 opening for middle schools, the change was noticeably absent from the district’s website and social media channels.
Albeit fluid and ever-changing, the district planned to mirror its Return to Learn phased-in opening structure for the second semester when students came back from winter break. However, the Governing Board reviewed and modified the current phase-in plans for in-person instruction involving district students.
