 Maricopa County Air Quality Department  officials said children, the elderly and people with heart/lung disease should reduce prolonged or strenuous activities outdoors.

Restrictions put in place for weekend high-pollution advisory

Maricopa County has issued a high-pollution advisory for New Year's Eve and Jan. 1.

 Maricopa County Air Quality Department  officials said children, the elderly and people with heart/lung disease should reduce prolonged or strenuous activities outdoors.

Restrictions:

  • Wood burning in residential fireplaces, chimeneas, outdoor fire pits and similar outdoor fires is prohibited. This includes individuals and businesses with permits for open burning.
  • Employees and contractors of government entities are prohibited from operating leaf blowers. Residents are encouraged to avoid leaf blowing.
  • Off-road vehicles are prohibited from being used during a high-pollution advisory.
